Archaeologists Macgregor and Shearer invite visitors on a journey to explore the timescapes of Stroan through a series of sculpture installation. The Stroan Viaduct represents a junction – a convergence of watery and human energies, all around the viaduct are traces of past places, stories, of possibilities.
The Stroan Viaduct represents a junction – a convergence of watery and human energies. Boundaries blend and blur at these intersections, yet we demand certainty…worlds where past, present and future are neatly defined and categorised. All around the viaduct are traces of past places, stories, of possibilities.
This project invites the visitor to explore the little known micro-landscapes of the Stroan Viaduct and, through reference to other sites in the surrounding area, to journey through the blurred boundaries which extend across the landscape. We seek to highlight places which have been appropriated as natural; renamed and reclaimed; places that are familiar and unfamiliar; mythical spaces that have fired literary imaginations; those that are yet to emerge…and…????
There will be several devices which help mediate this conversation, including a project website, and a wanderers guide, where All Will Be Revealed.
Gavin McGregor & Ingrid Shearer
Gavin & Ingrid work for an educational charity called Northlight Heritage. They are immersed in the past, permeated with prehistory, and moulded by the Medieval. In different guises, they have explored the archaeological and cultural heritage components of landscapes across Scotland from mountain top, through river systems, and the realities of the urban. Their practice is concerned with how our relationship with the past creates different possibilities for the future function, character and values of our landscapes.
